Dan and his wife, Ellyn, are new comers to the Valley having just moved here from Northern Virginia in December, 2006. Earning degrees in design from the University of Georgia, Dan has worked as a graphic designer, magazine art director, and illustrator. For thirty years he taught at Montgomery College (Rockville Campus) and was hired to set up a communications program curriculum that covered illustrating, printing, graphics, photography and even radio and television broadcasting.
Dan usually prefers to work in acrylics and watercolor. His style of painting is not limited in the subject matter and is reflective of his multi-faceted background. He is particularly appreciative of the works of John Constable and George Bellows. Two of his favorite contemporary artists, who happen to be illustrators, are Bernie Fuchs and Richard Thompson (a former student of Dan’s).
Now retired, Dan likes to get in as much paint time as possible. He participates in the Wednesday morning “paint in” with a couple other artists; and if called upon, is more than willing to lend his thoughtful critiques. Dan says he looks forward to being a part of the art scene here in the Valley.
